CHANGE FOR A TEN - TAKE 2

This year we're launching the "sequel" to Change for a Ten by amplifying the collected voices for change in the community.

Join us this Friday, February 6th, 7-10pm at Ghostprint Gallery (220 W. Broad St.). In conjunction with the launch of their Midseason Arts Issue, we're partnering with Style Weekly to showcase 10 of their distribution boxes that have been transformed by local artists to reflect themes of CHANGE. See these way-cool public artworks together in one place for one night only, before they make their way out into the world!

You can even take some dollars home...in a fun new format. We created Change for a Ten candy bar wrappers featuring a few timely and love-themed art dollars. Then we hooked up with our friends at For the Love of Chocolate, who generously donated gourmet chocolate bars (milk AND dark) to wrap them around. We'll be selling these lovely art bars for $10 at Ghostprint on the 6th, conveniently 8 days before Valentine's Day, so pick 'em up for your sweetie, your boss, your aunt, your child's teacher, your pet sitter, etc. They'll adore you, and we'll adore you. And if you can't make it on the 6th, the bars will be available after then at For the Love of Chocolate (Carytown), Quirk Gallery (311 W. Broad), and through ART 180.

See more dollars in the window of Radio Richmond, a block away at 308 W. Broad St. Then walk down the street to the Legal Aid Justice Center at 2nd and Broad, where we're displaying artwork by the young people in three of our fall 2008 programs. Marvel at their beautiful stained glass (Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club), laugh at their clever comics (St. Andrew's School), and check out their one-of-a-kind, self-expression T-shirts (Friends Association for Children).

This year, Art Karma is adding a special green twist, targeting art made from recycled materials, as well as eco-friendly products and services. Look for key GO GREEN items in this special auction that always encouraged buying locally for a good cause (including special environment "art dollars" -- perfect stocking stuffers for $10!). Listen to global music played by WRIR DJ's, eat exotic appetizers, sample Virginia wines and don't forget to try the one and only Karmatini. Admission is $10.
